Caldor Fire Engulfs Lake Tahoe Ski Resort
Caldor Wildfire Burns Into Lake Tahoe Ski Resort
Overnight on Sunday, the Caldor Fire, one of seven major fires active in California, burned its way into the Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resort. The wildfire has been burning since August 14th. It has burned over 175k acres so far and sits at just 14% containment.
Sadly, the Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort is part of the fires most recent path of destruction, that has already destroyed more than 600 structures. If there is a bright spot in this tragedy, the ski resorts’ main buildings look to have survived the fire’s path, at least for now. Firefighters fought through the night to protect those structures, even utilizing snow making equipment to prevent the fire’s spread. Evacuations orders are in place for much of the South Lake Tahoe region.
How To Help
You can donate to the Northern California Red Cross, or the Caldor Fire Fund established by El Dorado Community Foundation. This fund provides $500 for food, temporary housing costs, medication and other basic needs.
Our hearts go out to Sierra-at-Tahoe resort family, those that have been impacted by the Caldor Fire, and all victims impacted by this season’s wildfires. And of course, we offer tremendous thanks and gratitude to all of the firefighters.
