It’s Open! Take a look inside Big SNOW, North America’s First Indoor Snow Dome

READY… YETI… GO!

North America’s first real-snow indoor ski dome is now open and WE ARE PUMPED.

Big SNOW American Dream celebrated its first (and only) opening day on Thursday, December 5th with a huge party complete with on-snow DJ, gourmet hot cocoa, ice sculptures, champagne, a yeti, and a star-studded first chair.

BIG SNOW BY THE NUMBERS

Located in New Jersey’s Meadowlands, Big SNOW’s 750-foot slope stands 16 stories tall and remains at a consistent 28-degrees. The dome is covered with 5,500-tons of real snow that has been made using state-of-the-art snowmaking technology.

Big SNOW’s main route down is every bit an intermediate run, with a 26-degree pitch at the top. The run then mellows out to a more casual pitch as it progresses downhill.

About halfway down, skiers and riders can bare left and enter the terrain park which will be rebuilt regularly, or continue straight down to the chairlift.

Another section of the dome features a Terrain Based Learning™ course that helps first-timers get the sensation of sliding snow in a controlled and fun environment.

Olympic champion, Lindsey Vonn takes the first official run down Big SNOW and is welcomed with cowbells, cameras and a cheering crowd.

“The snow is perfect,” said Olympic champion, Lindsey Vonn. “And the slope is amazing. It’s longer than you think, and you can really carry some speed.”

365 DAYS OF BEANIES

Now, we know some of you may be skeptical of taking the magic of sliding snow indoors. We also know there is no replacement for fresh air, bluebird skies and natural mountain vistas. And Big SNOW is not aiming to replace the mountain experience we love so much.

Instead, Big SNOW now gives us 365 days of skiing and snowboarding regardless of weather and conditions. It’s a place to retreat in the hot, dank summer months. Beanies never have to go out of season ever again.

For us seasoned skiers and riders, it serves as a place to shake the dust off and prep for that marquee trip out west or to get some hot laps in through the park.

It’s proximity to New York City will also create millions of new skiers and riders over the years… and we’re all for that.

“It’s easy in, easy out. It’s clean and it’s affordable,” Travel Channel host, Anthony Melchiorri explains. “Kids that never would have thought of skiing can come here and experience it.”

Big SNOW is the latest attraction to open in the American Dream mall complex, which is also home to a Nickelodeon amusement park, ice rink and soon-to-open Dreamworks Waterpark. Retail stores are to follow in March 2020.
