Big Mountain Skiing Made Possible with Old Flight Technology

Last month a snowboarder and two skiers made history by dropping into the German Alps from a massive Zeppelin. Fabian Lentsch, Stefan Ager, and Andreas Gumpenberger planned out this adventure with the goal of breaking new grounds and paying tribute to this historic aviation technique. The challenges of this trip included getting the Zeppelin to altitude and repelling 60 meters down to the steep mountainside.

Pilot Fritz Gunther stated that “For this project, we had to rise to the maximum flight altitude. Every gram of weight, every fluctuation in temperature, difference in air pressure and speed of wind decides on success or failure.”

What is next for these three? Ager point out that “There is no other flying objects that we can do. I guess there is drone-skiing, where we hang onto an army of drones! We are not sure what’s coming next. Without a doubt this is the craziest thing we have ever done.”
